Indian captain Rohit Sharma claimed he was unaware of Mohammad Shami being subjected to “Jai Shri Ram” chants by spectators in Ahmedabad when he was questioned by the media about it following the completion of the fourth Test.
The crowd who had assembled at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium to watch the action on the final day began yelling “Jai Shri Ram” shouts for Mohammad Shami during the fourth Test. Before the commencement of the day’s events, spectators may be seen in a video on social media cheering for players who are sitting on the bench.
Jai Shri Ram chants could be heard among the applause, and near the end of the film, one of the chants is clearly addressed to Shami. This occurred on Monday morning as the players were getting ready to go out on the field for both teams. Shami, though, ignored the chants and continued to walk.
The issue was later brought up by the media during the post-game news conference, to which Sharma responded that he was unaware of any such incident occurring during the game. Sharma, who was absolutely astonished to learn about it, added with a bewildered expression on his face:
“I have no idea why people are chanting Jai Shri Ram for Shami. It’s the first time I’ve heard it. I’m not sure what happened there “.
Supporters have fiercely responded to the situation and labelled the crowd’s behaviour as “insensitive” on social media.
